PHP 4.4.9 was released a few days back (read the changelog). This is the final PHP 4 release, and developers and hosts are urged to upgrade to, or at least provide an option for, PHP 5, specifically PHP 5.2.x.

The declaration of end-of-life of PHP 4 should, hopefully, speed up adoption of PHP 5 (for example… thanks SourceForge.net guys!). It’s about time we see some new PHP 5 applications pop up. NOVALISTIC 3.0 was developed in PHP 5 even though CodeIgniter, which it is built on, continues to support PHP 4.
