WordPress Theme Directory and Thistle 1.0.2
Jul 18
About this post: A whole new WordPress Theme Directory has just been launched, and with that, Thistle 1.0.2 is now available.
The WordPress.org site team has just unveiled the brand new WordPress Theme Directory, and it looks hot! Way better than the old theme directory which stopped accepting new themes a long time ago due to excessive spam and other issues.
I’m going to start hosting my WordPress themes at the new theme directory. If you’re interested in hosting at the new site as well, here’s some stuff you’ll want to know.
By themes, I mean complete themes. My Sandbox designs (Potassium and Bromine) will not be available there. EDIT [7/19]: At least, not yet, until what Adam hypothesizes in his comment comes to light.
And along with this piece of great news, I have also put together Thistle 1.0.2, ready for download now. EDIT [7/19]: It will be available in the theme directory It is now available in the theme directory, and of course it’ll remain hosted here at NOVALISTIC as well.
Here’s what’s new from 1.0.1:
Changelog
- WordPress 2.5 visual editor CSS classes are now present, and thus:
- The visual editor will be happy.
- I’ll be able to host Thistle at the new WordPress Theme Directory.
- Thistle 1.0.1’s static Meta widget was not updated to reflect the credit to me. Ouch.
- Images now overflow the left column if necessary and are now visible over the sidebar.
- Corrected inconsistencies in a couple other templates.
- The theme’s PHP code has been edited to adhere to WordPress’s coding standards.

I’m hoping that it’ll be possible to host sandbox-based themes there as well, once the sandbox itself is approved.

I just noticed thistle and will consider using it for my community blog as I am now looking for another one that can handle widgets. The current one I am using does not seem as though it wants to work any longer after this new upgrade. Odd, but at any rate. I like your chosen colors and since most of the visitors and guests that come to my blog are of the female persona, this new color choice could actually work for my benefit.

@adam: Then I guess I’ll consider adding Potassium (and Bromine when I finish it) once Sandbox makes it in. You got a good point there.
@Sue: Thanks for your compliments! I agree that Thistle will suit your community blog too, having described it as a feminine theme. If you encounter any issues with the theme, do tell!

@baa: Edited your comment: please don’t trail your punctuation or type in ALL CAPS. Anyway, I don’t have a shoutbox… at least, not yet.
