Ditching anti-spam solutions for a day
Nov 29
Interesting catch: Jesper Rønn-Jensen is disabling all spam filters for a day on December 15, to see how much time actually is wasted sorting out spam comments, and how Akismet saves that amount of time by helping monitor comment traffic.
Now BoltPress is a very young blog (just under six months), so I don’t receive very many spam comments a day. If you watch my Akismet widget in my sidebar you should see that its count increases only by between none and twenty every day. But I’d love to join in the fun, so my point is that I’ll also be disabling my anti-spam plugins for the entire December 15.
That means no Akismet, Bad Behavior, Comment Timeout (yes it has helped stop spammers raining on very old posts), reCAPTCHA (I turned it off by mistake a while ago and never realized it; it’s back on now) nor Spam Karma. That’s right, none of those will be enabled on December 15 just to see how much spam goes through.
