Congratulations to the SDC winners…
Aug 7
From the title of this post you could probably tell how disappointed I am.
EDIT [8/9]: Thanks for all your encouraging words, guys, I feel way much better and more motivated now. I think too much.
EDIT [8/8]: I can’t believe I forgot to plug a link to the results post. OK there you go.
You might think that Potassium only didn’t win anything. Well, worse. It received absolutely NO points at all!
Here are the winners:
- SandPress by Arpit Jacob was the champion, scoring 26 points in total.
- Moo-Point by Will Wilkins placed second, with 23 points.
- Prima by Sunaryo Hadi came in third, with 19 points.
My utmost congratulations to the three of you. You did well.
Alright, if you don’t mind reading what I have to say for myself:
I’m just so disappointed with myself because it feels so much like I’m representing Singapore for the SDC, but Potassium scored zero. I never expected myself to win anything anyway, but I’m exasperated at my score.
I still feel I’ve let the rest of Singapore down. And besides, National Day’s in just a couple days. Plus, coupling all that with the fact that there aren’t exactly many Singaporean WordPress or free software advocates (or are there really many? AFAIK there aren’t many PHP developers here), I just feel overwhelmingly terrible… *sigh*
Also, I’ve just gotten dismissed from school *points to the post time*, but I checked for the scores during English class. Miss Law had brought us to the school library so I decided to seek permission from her to use the computers. And yes, my book report is only half-complete. Or a little bit more than that. Whatever, it’s still incomplete anyway.
I’m lucky I wasn’t after the money or I would’ve stopped blogging once and for all, srsly.
I’m sorry, Singapore. Happy early 42nd birthday. And I’m not in the mood for any Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy jokes.
If you’d like to console me, sure, just leave a reply right below. I’ll be glad to reply, just don’t expect me to be friendly if you aren’t.
hey thanks, for a teen I think you did very well cheer up keep trying again and again you’ll improve over time. There is always next time. you can add me on gtalk if you ever need any help

Hi Arpit, thanks for your encouragement - I didn’t expect you’d come along and comment on this post. Yeah I guess being a teen designer wasn’t that bad after all
I don’t have GTalk, only AIM and MSN. Bummer.
See you again, and have fun with SandPress

Don’t lose heart! There were plenty of good designs that didn’t score any points, and it you haven’t let Singapore down - the fact that you have represented Singapore shows courage and passion in itself! Keep at it!

Cheer up
We’re both the only reps from our country and we both scored zero. Don’t worry about it, there’s always a first time for everything
I also was disappointed at myself for getting that perfect oval, but then I will still strive on with designing and all. I honestly think you’ve done a great job, so just keep it up

FWIW, i think potassium is a really good design. I suppose there just weren’t enough points to go around.

@Stevie: Now that you mention that , I kinda agree with you
Cheers.
@Chien Yee: Thank you for your kind words. Maybe I should try again when there’s another Sandbox Designs Competition in future
I’m going to work much harder redesigning my site. I’m sick and tired of absolute positioning.
@adam: Hey, you did earn a couple points with Walk in the Shadows even if not with Promised Land.
Cheers guys, I’m feeling a bit better now

Don’t be sad. It was the same with me in my first competition, and MY first entry was bad. YOURS is already very good, and you will do more designs by the time and one of them will score and maybe win.
You do not have to be ashamed, because I consider you a great representative for your country, that’s sure. Keep up your good work:-)

FWIW when I was your age I was busy drawing pictures of Batman and trying to figure out Microsoft Paint and TurboPascal. When you’re my age (an ancient 29) you’re going to smoke me.
P.S. I love the focus effect on the comments box! I feel radioactive!

Lordie don’t feel bad about not scoring any points. My design didn’t either! And I’m an old school WordPresser with many themes under my belt
It’s not if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game right? I had a ton of fun making Wrock It! I got my feet wet again playing with design. I wouldn’t change a thing!

@Daniela: I’ll keep working at it
@Ian: That was in 1993, good sir. Web design wasn’t that big yet
Congrats on Essay by the way (rhyme).
@Jennifer: ‘Lordie’? o.o”
Yeah, I keep forgetting that effort is what matters, thanks for reminding me of it. And Wrock It is a really cute theme.
@BAA: Before you know it your school will be bogging you down with web design lessons.
I gladly appreciate all your encouragement, you all rock.
Honestly, I think I’ve just been thinking too much. I was kinda stressed stacking the results with schoolwork when I was typing all I wanted to in this post so I guess I wasn’t exactly watching what I wrote.
And no I’m not a sore loser nor am I trying to be one
